Good Cold Weather Gear: Wool Felt Jackets

Many autistics are sensitive to changes in temperature. That can be a problem in colder seasons and climates, when you’re constantly moving between the warm indoors and the freezing outdoors, alternatively sweating and shivering. I’ve found a wool felt jacket to be the most comfortable outerwear for such times. Felt is made by pressing fibres together, not by weaving. As a result, warm air is trapped between the fibres, while moisture (such as perspiration or rain) evaporates easily through them. Felt is also a relatively light material, which helps with comfort too.

I Just Like It: Audio-Technica Headphones

Audio-Technica may not be a familiar name to all, but they make the best headphones for my money. For several years I’ve owned a pair of low-priced ATH-FC700s which I use daily (not sure if they still make them). Apart from the crystal-clear sound, the headphone’s cable and ear-cushions have remained fully intact (unlike some other brands, where these parts tend to wear out after a year or less. If the cable wears out, that pretty much renders the headphones useless).  Audio-Technica headphones score consistently high on Amazon’s customer reviews, which is not surprising based on my experience with the ATH-FC700s. Here’s a video review by MKBHD of the higher-end ATH-M50x:

I Just Like It: Split Stick USB Drive

We often carry separate thumb drives for home and work, or for different projects. Why not combine them with the 2-in-1 Split Stick? Each Split Stick has two retractable 4GB drives, one at each end and clearly labelled, so you won’t get them mixed up.

The Drop Rest mug, designed by Kim Keun Ae, has a groove near the bottom that effectively captures drips. No more worries about getting coffee stains on your desk or (worse) your work. [via Trendhunter]

I Just Like It: Aquabot Portable Pressurized Running Water

Have you ever washed up in an ice cold river, used a bazillion wet wipes to clean your kid’s hands and face, poured out half your drinking water trying to rinse off your hands, got sand in your car, got your hibachi stolen because it was too hot and dirty to put away in your car, filled up your dog’s water dish on the trail and they didn’t drink it, wanted a fun way to put out camp fires, gotten your hands dirty from eating s’mores, wanted to drink water from your bottle without spilling it down your shirt, dreaded doing camp dishes, needed to water balloon your friends in the outback, or just wanted to cool off?
